Valorization of bio based raw materials

Raw materials based on bio mass are a highly attractive and promoted field of development. Driven by legal policy and changes in consumer and producer standings it can be expected that “green materials” will increase in volume on the market. The workshop held in Bremen, Germany, aims to show the latest progress in biotechnology, bio products and end uses.

These three topics are closely related as only optimized biotechnology can enable competitive bio based raw materials in a wider range. Conversely, only when potential end uses are apparent will the industrialization from bio refineries from first generation to second or third generation be progressed. Bio refineries based on simple raw materials are already in operation – but the end goal is to develop plants which, by using a wider range of raw materials, can develop multiple products including biomass-based energy and chemical products.

The workshop covers the three topics of biotechnology, bio products and bio based raw materials for industrial uses. From each topic distinguished speakers will be present, including appearances from the companies Worlée Chemie GmbH and Jowat AG which use bio based raw materials in coatings and adhesives, the commercial manufacturer of bio products ASA Spezialenzyme GmbH, and leading institutes from the Technische Universität München and Politechnico Di Milano for biotechnology.
