Paints, both water-based and solvent-based, are the most common coating materials and have a range of users, from DIY enthusiasts to professional industrial companies. Key features of these liquid coating materials are their universal use and the variety of methods that can be employed to apply them. That is the reason for their widespread use for DIY tasks and for high-end products such as cars, aircraft, and ships.

In order to meet the requirements for different tasks, the compositions of liquid coatings vary considerably and must be precisely customized for the task in hand. Furthermore, the coating and application method must be adapted to each other in order to achieve an optimum result.

The Paint/Lacquer Technology experts at Fraunhofer IFAM are involved in the formulation, application, testing, and qualification of a wide range of liquid coating materials. A comprehensive range of laboratory-scale manufacturing equipment, application methods, test equipment, and analytical methods for liquid and cured coatings are available for this work.

We offer raw material manufacturers, coating developers, coating manufacturers, and end users not only R&D services but in addition specific application-related advice on all matters concerning liquid coating materials.
