    As the newest facility of its Innovation Center Additive Manufacturing (ICAM), Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden has put into operation the so-called "Fusion Factory" of XERION BERLIN LABORATORIES. This is a compact production line for the additive manufacture of metallic and ceramic components using fused filament fabrication.

    Since July 1, 2020, the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM in Dresden has been concentrating on a future-oriented field of research with its new working group on "Soft Magnetic Materials", which is particularly important for the highly topical areas of renewable energies and electromobility.

    The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM in Dresden together with the Danish SBS Friction A/S as well as the Danish Technological Institute are developing an iron-based sintered brake pad for motorcycles. The project „GreenPad“, funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark, wants to create an environmentally friendly alternative to established surfacing materials.

    Characterization of thermal interfaces in modular satellites

    The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM in Dresden has started a new project for the thermal characterization of copper/CNT based wafers for use in thermal interfaces of modular satellites. The project "ThermTEST" is funded for 18 months by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy.

    On November 5, 2019, Dr. Thomas Weißgärber, head of the Dresden Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korean Hanyang University to promote relations with the application-oriented research unit ERICA (Education-Research-Industry Cluster at Ansan).
