    The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM in Dresden together with the Danish SBS Friction A/S as well as the Danish Technological Institute are developing an iron-based sintered brake pad for motorcycles. The project „GreenPad“, funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark, wants to create an environmentally friendly alternative to established surfacing materials.

    Characterization of thermal interfaces in modular satellites

    The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM in Dresden has started a new project for the thermal characterization of copper/CNT based wafers for use in thermal interfaces of modular satellites. The project "ThermTEST" is funded for 18 months by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy.

    On November 5, 2019, Dr. Thomas Weißgärber, head of the Dresden Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korean Hanyang University to promote relations with the application-oriented research unit ERICA (Education-Research-Industry Cluster at Ansan).

    Together with the H+E-Produktentwicklung GmbH in Moritzburg, Saxony, the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM in Dresden has developed a true-to-scale gas turbine that impressively demonstrates the current potentials and limitations of powder bed-based additive technologies.
