At Fraunhofer IFAM, the entire process chain for the manufacture of battery cells, partially also in automated form, is showcased. This encompasses the process steps of

  • punching and/or cutting
  • pile formation
  • electrical contacting and packaging
  • electrolyte filling
  • sealing and
  • formation.

Each of these steps is adapted to the respective demands placed on the energy storage technology. This enables a direct correlation between the manufacturing parameters and the electrochemical performance of the finished battery cells and test cells as well as of the battery these comprise. Furthermore, the safety of the battery depends quite decisively on its manufacture.

In addition, the formation step has a significant influence on cycle stability and battery lifetime and is thus, in connection with battery aging, one of our particular focal points.

We develop various cell types (1mAh up to 20Ah) and can thus also validate customer-specific material samples according to your specifications with efficiency both speed and flexibility.
