Quality Management

Certifications of quality work for our customers

Systematic quality management at Fraunhofer IFAM ensures the quality of our work and services and creates the basis for continuous improvement of processes. Areas of the institute are certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 "QM systems - requirements". Furthermore, some areas are recognized according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17024 "Conformity assessment - General requirements for bodies certifying persons" or accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 "General requirements for the competence of testing laboratories" or the Nadcap regulations for laboratories.

DIN EN ISO 9001 Certification

Since 1995, Fraunhofer IFAM has been certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001.

The validity extends to the following areas at the Bremen and Stade sites:

  • Product-oriented development of materials, mechanical engineering, machining processes and production technologies for adhesive bonding technology, surface technology, and paint/lacquer technology, and of automation and digitization technologies for production processes
  • Characterization and simulation of materials and technologies
  • Adhesives development
  • Training courses in adhesive bonding technology, fiber composites technology, and electromobility
  • Casting technologies
  • Metallography, thermal analysis, powder measurement technology, and trace analysis
  • Testing laboratory for material testing, corrosion testing, paint/lacquer technology and materialography/analytics

DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation

Bremen

The testing laboratories for materials testing, corrosion testing, paint/lacquer technology, materialography and analytics at the Bremen site have also been accredited to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 since 1996. Accreditation by DAkkS only applies to the scope of accreditation listed in certificate D-PL-11140-02-00. Concerning flexible accreditation, the standard revisions in use are described in “Current List of Procedures”.

Explanations on declarations of conformity and decision rules are given in the following information:

Dresden

At Fraunhofer IFAM’s Dresden Branch, laboratory is accredited in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025 for mechanically/technological analysis of metallic material, tests for characterization inorganic powder and sintered materials, determination of chemical elements. Accreditation by DAkkS only applies to the scope of accreditation listed in certificate D-PL-11140-06-00.

NADCAP Approvals

Parts of IFAM laboratories are approved as independent testing laboratories according to the NADCAP system required by aviation industry.

The NADCAP "accreditation" in the scope of Chemical Processing (CP) applies to important test procedures important for evaluation of coatings, e.g. cross-cut test acc. ISO 2409 and salt spray test acc. ISO 9227.

In the scope of Non Metallic Materials Testing (NMMT), approval is granted for testing of Composites (CFRP) acc. to AITM 1-0053 (G1c procedure).

DIN EN ISO/IEC 17024 Accreditation

The Center for Adhesive Bonding Technology is internationally recognized for its training courses and has been accredited via DVS-PersZert® in accordance with DIN EN ISO/ IEC 17024 since 1998.
