Testing a coating developed at Fraunhofer IFAM

Accredited paint/lacquer test laboratory and corrosion testing laboratory in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025

 

Standard tests are essential when developing coatings and for quality assurance purposes in order to accurately characterize the coating systems. Tests are carried out on the liquid coatings prior to application and also on the cured/hardened coatings. The coatings are tested for a variety of loads depending on their use and this hence covers a wide range of test methods, for example regarding the adhesion properties, elasticity, color management, resistance to weathering, and resistance to chemicals. The coatings are tested for a variety of stresses depending on their use. This covers a wide range of test methods – for example elasticity, color management, resistance to weathering, and resistance to chemicals.

Fraunhofer IFAM offers a range of tests for paints and lacquers (mechanical, physical, and optical methods) and classical corrosion tests (e.g. the salt spray test in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9227 and ISO 20340). Non-accredited paint/lacquer tests and corrosion tests can also be undertaken on request. There are many standards, norms, and guidelines for determining the quality of coatings. The scientists at Fraunhofer IFAM test, analyze, and evaluate coatings using all relevant standards and norms. Companies and organizations specify the required surface properties. Tests are then performed to determine whether that coating material possesses the required properties using German standards, international guidelines, or specific company specifications.
