International Exhibition for Metal Working

The experts for Automation and Production Technology at Fraunhofer IFAM in Stade, Germany, together with its research partner Güdel AG, will be presenting their latest R&D results on the “Machine Tool Robot” (MTR) in combination with a high-precision linear axis at AMB 2026 in Stuttgart from September 15 to 19.
Fraunhofer IFAM in Stade has developed a pioneering technology to improve the dynamics and precision of industrial robots: a new drive technology combined with model-based control strategies and an optimized mechanical structure of the robot. This technology compensates for dynamic errors and effectively dampens vibrations. As a result, path accuracy is significantly improved, even at high feed rates and complex trajectories.
A particular advantage is the optimized disturbance rejection which ensures constant precision even with high dynamic process forces. In addition, this drive concept allows for significantly enhanced jerk values, leading to a considerable increase in productivity.
Thanks to these properties, the “Machine Tool Robot” (MTR) closes the gap between classic industrial robots and machine tools. It is particularly suitable for demanding manufacturing processes, e.g. in the machining of difficult-to-cut materials, and open new possibilities for automation technology and Smart Industry.
