Fraunhofer IFAM Dresden, one of the leading institutes in powder metallurgy, conducts fundamental and applied research for solution-oriented material and technology development for innovative sintered and composite materials, functional materials as well as cellular metallic materials for energy technology, mobility and medical technology. Hydrogen technology plays a key role in the field of energy technology.

The range of services comprises the industrial implementation of the research results through to the manufacture of prototypical components and their transfer to industrial application. The developments are carried out along the entire process chain. One technological focus lies on powder-based additive manufacturing (e.g. Selective Electron Beam Melting, 3D screen printing, Fused Filament Fabrication, gel casting, MoldJet and LMM) as well as further special technologies like melt spinning, melt extraction, spark plasma sintering and moulding processes which support the material and component development.

In the accredited testing laboratory, powder characterisations and tests of sintered materials are carried out according to DIN/ISO standards.

The institute is distinguished by its strong interdisciplinary team in the fields of materials and production engineering, process engineering, mechatronics, chemistry and physics, which develops the right solution for your problems.

🚀 AM Forum Berlin - We're in!

 

On 𝟭𝟬 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟭 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, Fraunhofer IFAM will once again be represented at the Additive Manufacturing Forum I AM Forum in Berlin. Together with Fraunhofer IPA, you will find us at 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝟭𝟬.

We will be contributing our many years of expertise in additive manufacturing and demonstrating how innovative materials, sinter-based processes, and reliable technologies are finding their way into industrial applications. Our focus is on scalable solutions along the entire process chain – from material development to series production.

We are honored to welcome Prof. Kee-Ahn Lee from Inha University, Republic of Korea, as a Plenary Speaker at EMATec 2026

Prof. Lee has been Professor at Inha University since 2017, following his professorship at the National University of Andong from 2005 to 2016. His academic career also includes research stays at institutions such as MIT in the United States of America and Korean research centers.

His research focuses on 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘆𝘀. His work addresses deformation, fracture, fatigue and wear behaviour of metals including aluminium, titanium and nickel alloys as well as steels. Further research areas include high-temperature behaviour, oxidation and the development of heat-resistant alloys. He is also active in additive manufacturing of metals, powder metallurgy, metal injection moulding and thermal spraying processes.

At 𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗲𝗰 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, Prof. Lee will deliver his plenary lecture on:
“𝗙𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗯𝘆 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴.”

His contribution will address fabrication routes and structure-property relationships of porous materials produced by PM and AM technologies.

Preliminary programme for EMATec 2026 is now online! 🎉

 

We are very happy to announce that the preliminary programme for EMATec 2026 is now available.

Thank you to all participants who help shape a programme that already reflects the breadth and depth of the conference, with contributions from international experts from from academia and industry covering topics from the fields of powder metallurgy, additive manufacturing, hydrogen technologies, soft and hard magnetic materials, recycling, modelling and simulation, and materials for extreme environments.

We are excited about all presentations including plenary and keynote talks, three parallel technical tracks, and a poster session, offering ample opportunity for scientific exchange and discussion across disciplines. Stay tuned as the programme further unfolds.

Arno Plankensteiner has been instrumental in driving innovation in refractory metals, digital process optimization, and sustainable materials development. This has enabled Plansee to further strengthen its position as an innovation partner in the field of modern powder metallurgy, which was recently underscored by the presentation of the 𝗘𝗣𝗠𝗔 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱.

This award recognizes Plansee’s comprehensive and measurable contributions to sustainability, including responsible raw material sourcing, decarbonization efforts, circular material flows, and strong social engagement across its global sites.
